I've enjoyed my C-4040Z for more than two years now, but recently, the lens stopped extending. When powered on, the camera makes sounds like it's trying to extend the lens, but the lens does not move and it starts beeping at me. I saw the previous post on this site regarding this problem, and tried the one solution offered (removing the batts overnight) with no luck.

I don't have a warranty, and I'm not going to spend $150 on a repair job, when I can buy one of these now for that price or less on Ebay. I want to take the lens off to see if I can free something up that might be jammed, but I can't figure out how. (I've removed thefirst ring, but can't get the rest). Also, there's a lens for sale on Ebay for $40. I might buy that and put it on. I am comfortable fixing electronics, though I have no formal training.

Thanks for any suggestions.
