Default Taking the Plunge!

Saw this oppertunity for an intersting photo while away enjoying the good weather at the weekend. A group of boys were jumping from a great height into the sea. I wish I had been closer but I think it works. Had to greayscale the background otherwise the boy didn't stand out so great. Hope you like it.

regards
Martin.

This is a very strange photo. I guess it is because the boy is kind of suspended in mid-air with a body completely straight and WITH SHOES ON! hehe

I expect boys jumping of cliffs to look a little more wild and less controlled. hehe.....conditioning, I guess..

I think the photo is missing credibility with such a dramatic grey scale conversion....as if the boy was copied and pasted in....

I wonder if it would look better with only the rocks in the background made black and white, while keeping the water in colour???

mhm. I agree with soundengineer.
The boy looks like cropped out and put into that picture.
could you probably post the original picture?

And yep, why not try to just greyscale the rocks and leave the colour of the water alone? maybe it works better then.

My largest jump was about 30 feet. At that height you must go into the water perfectly straight. You want to make sure your arms are to your sides or else you'll be bruised. Sneakers really help cushion the impact on your feet.

Hi
Soundengineer. I totally agree with what you say. I was concerned that people would think this was a 'cut and paste job'! It isn't though. As for the colouring the ocean I might just try that and see if it works. Sounds good.

Klaus. There's no secrets on this one. I just used the channel mixer to grey it, and then painted the mask to reveal the boy. That's it!

I may post a new version sometime soon so watch this space!

thanks guys!

Martin.

Pardon me for getting off the subject of the composition and picture quality, but I enjoy this stuff and I'm wondering if you recall...Was that youth engaged in some sort of twisting dive?

Sorry Josh I have no idea. I think they were just jumping straight in?

Martin.
