Default Candles during power loss

I'm a very new Canon G5 user. Previously I was using an Agfa 1280 and hardly ever took it out of fully automatic mode.

Trying a little thing with no flash and small depth of field tonight during a power outage (due to a storm--no worries):

A very nice capture!
I like the first one very much because the angle is abstract and it adds some mystery feeling to the photo. You have captured the lighting very well indeed, considering how difficult it is to shoot in low-light conditions without a flash.
Well done.

phew, you guys seem to have serious problems with your power supply

But seriously: It has its good side, too: Your wonderful shots.
I like it very much. Especially the little DOF.

Very warm colors...

Your photo seems to remind of a simpler, quieter time.

I'm humbled by your positive comments. Thank you all! And I'm having a blast with this new camera. By the way, the Vivid effect definitely helped achieve those warm colors.

Unfortunately for me and my girlfriend, I happened to be spending an evening at my parents' house.
