Default Pizza night!

So my new toy (aka - Canon Rebel XSi with 50mm f1.8 lens) just arrived. Of course Friday night is homemade pizza night so I tested it out.

Here are some pics. The depth of field is amazing on this thing and I'm very happy with how these pics turned out considering that I didn't have much light!

Tips and comments are certainly welcome....

John

Or I'm getting old or the picks are out of focus.

I think the 2nd is. The other two just have a narrow dof. The first is focused a little too far back for my liking I would have preferred the hand and piece of pizza being held up being the sharpest but it is just behind this. The 3rd is focused on the top of the plastic whisk. I'm not sure where the focus would be best for this, possibly the mix but would be worth trying some different options.

Having said that the first is similar to something you might see in a magazine or on a pizza shops wall.

I didn't realize how much control of the DOF I would have, especally considering where to focus! Having the aperature wide open may be more trouble than its worth with pics like this. I should have messed around with more pics in the f3-5 range to see what would have happened. However, I do like how some portions are out of focus.

I was torn between how much to mess around with focusing and when to eat :-)
