Default Accomplishing a goal

This was a major goal that I set for myself late last year. November 16th 2009 I had brain surgery to remove a tumor. Before being diagnosed I had planned on climbing this mountain then the bad news came. Unfortunately there were some complications while removing the tumor and I lost the vestibular (balance) system on that side.

I made it a goal to climb to this peak before the one year anniversary of my surgery and thanks to many miles of hiking the cliffs off the Palos Verdes Peninsula in preparation for this hike, I made it by three days.

This is a rare photo of me taken by me thanks to my fisheye lens while on the summit.

This peak is located in the Telegraph mountains east of Yuma Arizona. It was the sight of a B-17 plane crash in a 1944 training mission. There is a memorial shrine on the summit where I took this shot.

Here is some more info on the plane crash.

Thanks Gary and JimC

I was a little wobbly on the hike and always be, but any of the 5 guys on that plane would have gladly traded places me.

I know I'm not the first one to say this but sometimes it takes something like I experienced to put things clearly into perspective. We tend to take a lot for granted.

Early last year I would have never guessed that climbing that mountain would have meant so much to me.

Thanks Sharpshotgal

So sorry to learn of your grandmothers passing. The doctor who performed my surgery is actually one of the docs who invented the procedure used. He's in his 70s and still has a steady hand.

No one else went with me, I did it solo
