I snapped this photo facing the West with the sun just to the left of the image. The sun was dropping in the September sky, and the sky was bright blue to the East. I couldn't believe what I was seeing was real, and thought maybe I'd looked into the sun and ruined my eyes, causing this effect. However, the pix before and after had no effects and the clouds were beautiful. I didn't use any filters or special tricks. This is how the photo was developed.

A science web site described this phenomena: "When parts of clouds are thin and have droplets of similar sizes they can shine with diffracted light colors just like a corona. In fact, they are corona fragments. The effect is called cloud iridescence or irisation, terms derived from Iris the Greek personification of the rainbow."

Hello Wisconsin!

Very interesting shots. (Did you get any shots with a little wider angle? It'd be nice to see these shots in relation to some recognizable landmarks.) Keep posting stuff like that and you'll make a lot of friends.

Welcome to the show!

Here is a shot that is not in so close! Sorry, there are no landmarks. I guess I was just too much in awe, and I wanted to get in so close because I knew my family would never believe me if I didn't get a lot of detail.
