Is it just me or does this photo cause some serious eye-strain?

mactek

edit: After posting this, I realize the compressed image is not as harsh as the full-sized one. it still causes some strain though..

Hi Mactek

Yeah, it's a bit rough, but all in all not too bad. It's an interesting switch on the shallow DOF pic.I find that shooting out-of-focus to in-focus works better when the foreground is not too busy. The problem with an out-of-focus foreground is details are exaggerated because of the scale and they are out of focus.

Still, it's an attractive shot on the whole.

Regards,

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

When I first look at this photo, my eyes are immediately drawn to the top of the frame. Then my eyes drop down the large rocks in the foreground. Since they are out of focus, my eyes immediately return to the top and the cycle starts over again. I think this is the cause of the eyestrain.

I think if you cropped out the bottom 1/3 and the left 1/3 of the photo, it would improve it significantly.

It's a nice scene. If you try cropping, please post another shot for comparison.
