I recently travelled to Israel for a 2 week tour. On the flight to Israel the Lufthansa plane I was on had a bomb threat phoned in on the flight. The result was that Israel refused entry to their airspace and our plane was met by 2 Israeli F-15C fighters that diverted us from Israeli airspace and escorted us to a landing in Cyprus. After 5 hours of security checks we were finally allowed to reboard the plane and continue on to Tel Aviv. Phew! Here's one of the fighters taken through the window of the plane - it was flying just off the wing of the airliner:

Thanks, Julie!

Actually, when I was in Israel I felt safer there than I ever did while walking around in downtown New York City! The only places that I felt I needed to watch myself were when I was walking around in the Arab quarters of Jerusalem or when I was in Jordan to visit the ruins at Petra.

Im sure you are right but all we seem to see on Tv these days where Israel is concerned is the conflict between them and Palestine. Im happy to travel my own country first being as its so huge it will take me years to do so, but I gotta retire from working first:-)

I'm not minimizing the conflict in the Middle East, but Julie, I'm sure you realize that you can't believe everything you see on television. News these days tends to maximize the shock value of bad occurrences - that's the way they get viewers. For some reason these days, good news doesn't sell but bad news does (must be the rubbernecker effect).

yes I agree there, we never hear the good news stories about say Iraq, I know the Aussie soldiers have been working on a kindergarten and it only got noticed as one of the wives mentioned it in an interview on the radio. I think the only good news we heard was when the RAAF took the iraq soccer team to the olympics and when a couple of Aussie SAS were the only ones with communications and helped out the USA soldiers in an attack as they had dropped their packs and comms during the raid, this made 60 minutes here. I dont know what it is like in America or else where in the world.

Yep, definitely a bit of craziness involved with this incident - things like this sure make life interesting!

It's going to take me awhile to go through the 2000 pictures I took. All of you might be sick of my pictures before I'm done.

Sorry to hear that you still have posting problems, John. At least you have a backup plan. If I were closer to you (like a few miles away) I'd visit and see what the problem was. You're going to have to find yourself a local expert...
