Herewith a pic of an electric single bar fire. I'm posting it here because the challenge has moved on.

I tried photographing it outside in the late afternoonsome days ago(far too hot to have a fire indoors at the time), and it came out looking as if it wasn't switched on. Nothing was happening - the daylight killed the heat light.

Herewith a version done this afternoon, indoors, with the curtains closed ...

I've done nothing to it beyond resizing & sharpening.

You young whippersnapper you !!

The electric single bar fire, considered the modern must have in the home circa 1910/1960's.

Yes, last century !!! And very nearly the one before that.

I'm sure Caroline must be keeping hers for it's potential monetary value in, maybe..... another 100 years or so .

You see the horizontal bar in the middle of the frame ? Well that is a heating element that glows red hot when in full swing, with the heat bouncing off a reflector behind it. They were convenient to use due to their portability. You could unplug it and then plug it in somewhere else!!

Wealthy folk could afford one of these babies with 2 bars. And if you were super rich, you could have, you guessed it, 3 whole bars. Then you were cooking. Trouble was too many people acctually ended up being darn near cooked with these things, and for some time now they have been consigned to museums. At least I hope you can't get them anymore.

'Red hot' photo Caroline :-).
