Sunday went out and took a shot or 2 or 3 of the moon and mars. This is the best I got. Taken with Canon 20D 100-400mm @400mm with 1.4x TC f/8 1/250 EC 0 iso 200 (I think). Handheld.

You have a fine shot of the moon, but Mars looks more like a spot of dirt or a hot pixel. I would just crop out Mars and use the moon as your focal point. Not your fault, you just need a much bigger lens.

Joel, thanx!! I was just experimenting to see if I could capture mars along with the moon. I do have a larger lens. But, I need to get the corrector plate replaced due to mold or some sort of contaminant that fogged it up. I have an 8 inch schmidt-cassegrain telescope. Plus, this shot was of a conjunction. I think they are only about 2 degrees apart.

On the dpreview forum there are many people that post there moon photos. Some are just amazing, they use large tracking telescopes. Mold sure does mess up a lens. I just bought off EBay a descant pack to keep in my camera bag. It is a 2" X 4" aluminum pack that can be recharged in the oven. It turns pink when it needs rechaging.

The texture on the moon's surface is great. Good shot of the moon - you don't need Mars
