I think they are either trying to push people to their SLR or the FZ50 (or maybe a new FZ60) if they want a more advanced camera. The FZ18 is probably intended to target those in the point and shoot crowd that want a big zoom.

It appears that itis missing and that alone will simply not do for me. Too bad.

It won't do for me either! If they don't want to, or can't fit a hotshoe on a camera with these specs (and price tag) how much does it cost to put an 'X' flash socket? ( like the old Kodak DX6490 has - with no trigger voltage restrictions!!) so if you need extra light you can plug it in.

Maybe they figure you can use the pop-up flash, turned way down to trigger a remote sync of your external flash andwork out the correct exposure by trial and error.

The bottom line is, for the money you should be getting a dedicated hotshoe for the Metz or Panasonic flashes.

I didn't see that the camera offered TIFF or RAW either.
