Prefocused on a spot for the actual race action, waited for the ponies to get there and shot a burst when they did. Most of these were shot using the extended optical zoom, and still need some final cropping to get this close..

Of course, there's always other, non race-related subjects to shoot during a day at the track..

Admiring the horses as they warm up..

Discussing the next bet..

A nice ice bath after the race..

Smoke break..

"Of course I washed my hands! This is your half of the Snickers bar..."..

Winners Circle shot. Sometimes it takes a little waving to get the horses attention..

"There's gotta be some good worms in this dirt..."..

Great series of photos!

P.D.C. (Pre Digital Camera) I wold go 1 or 2 times a year to Belmont Race Track with a 500mm mirror lens, 1.4x extender and a tripod to catch the horses coming off the turn and straight at me. Must give this a try with a 10x optical digital.

Will still take along the tripod!
