Default Sensor Roadmap (Panasonic)

Scary stuff – Still at a size of 1/2.3, yet Panasonic sensor roadmap is aiming at 20MP by 2012

With all the hype around CMOS and MOS, clearly Panasonic sees a future for its new generation of CCD sensors too:

makes it possible to reproduce crisp, clear, sharp, actual images regardless of the degree of subjective contrast while ensuring compact size and high performance”.

Yep. They either have a death wish or their next-gen sensors really are that good. Makes sense in a way, since we know from optics that to keep the current or better zoom ratio vs size/weight equation, the sensors must stay small. Or smaller...see 1/3" in the roadmap at bottom...

you've probably already caught the uproar at DPR on this one...
