If the fz has a 46mm tread, it should screw right in without any adapters. And it should not interfere with the zoom at all.

I always have the UV filter attached directly to my FZ-38 / 35. I haven't had any problems with the zoom at all, so I'd get one as soon as I could (46mm like you said)

A bit pricier but I was worried about distorting the image and I read it was easier to clean. I'll let you know how it works out.
