While it's "resting" set a big hammer by it.

Maybe that will help change it's mind.

Have you got a different battery you can try in it? Sometimes, a voltage issue can cause problems writing to memory cards.

It seems unlikely the card slot is damaged (fairly rare with SD cards, since you don't have any pins to bend), and if you're tried more than one card in it, then something else is probably going wrong causing your issue (component failure, loose connection to card slot, cracked etching in circuit board, cold solder joint, bad battery, etc.). I'd make sure to remove and reinsert the card multiple times, just to help clean any oxidation that may have formed on contacts though (as friction will help clean them).
