Default Photography in UV light

Has anyone got any advice about taking photographs in UV light?

I am particularly interested in photographing mineral specimens.
At the moment I only have a small UV source (it was designed for looking at stamps) but I am thinking about a better source.

Any advice would be welcome.

The pictures below were taken in normal light on the right (1/200) and under UV on the left (60s Starry night mode). Both iso 200. Panasonic FZ100. Should I have taken the UV filter off the lens? I didn't think about it until after I had finished!
