Default Need Help on manual focus on FZ40

I just got my new Panasonic FZ40 camera.I wanted to try out manual focus for photos and videos, but have suceeded yet.

Here is the steps that i follow

1.Move to P mode on the dial
2.Press the AF button so that the focus is moved to MF
3.Turn on the MF mode (move it to orange in color) by clicking the wheel.
4.Now when i rotate the wheel (on top-right hand corner),the image becomes blurred and stays for 2 secs and returns back to normal.

Do i need to do anything else apart from the steps i have followed above ? I am not sure ,what i am missing to get manual focussed shots.

Please help.
Thanks in advance

Default Might be easier using the cursor buttons

Panasonic even states that it can be tough to get focused using just the wheel.
Have a look at pages 73 and 74 of the manual for more details,
I've just been using autofocus.
