Default AF area Explaine what it is used for?

HI all

could someone explain the use of AF area 23 or 11 or 5 vs 1. I don't understand the use of so many Auto Focus points if the camera chooses what to focus on instead of you. Or is this used for action shots where something is always moving Like a bird or a car or something like that?

Could you help me understand what it is used for?

As I understand it. the different options are how you tell the camera what's important and should be in focus and used for exposure calculation (Face Detection, Dynamic Tracking, Center of frame, someplace off-center that you pick, etc).
