Default Quick question about LX-5 flash

Hey guys!

I have a quick question that's been driving me nuts! I love long exposure photography, and I recently picked up the Lumix LX-5. I was wondering if there is a way to use the default flash to fire off multiple flashes or if I need to buy an external flash. Basically what I want is the flash to go off at the beginning right when I snap the picture, and at the end.

I went into the settings and hit Flash Syncro = 2ND and I thought for sure that would do it.

When I took the picture the flash went off at the beginning and at the end, but when the picture showed up it had only registered the one at the end. I'm assuming that 2nd means 2nd curtain so this isn't all the surprising, but I was surprised that the flash went off at the beginning and didn't show up on the picture.

Any help would be great! And if I do have to by an external flash, what do you think is the best (and most cost effective) one to get?
