Default FZ-10 shooting delay for action & sport photos

Did someone measure the real delay between depressing shot button, and the photo itself ?
Are there some best parameters, and/or tricks for sport shots (like moto race, ski...) :?:

If you've half-pressed the shutter button and gotten a green light, the additional delay once you press it the rest of the way is about 0.15 seconds. If you just press it without half-pressing it, the delay is at least 0.7 seconds and can be several seconds if it can't get focus lock.
If you put the camera into Manual Focus mode (and hopefully pre-focus, since it won't do it for you), then if you just press the shutter button without half-pressing it, the delay is about 0.3 seconds.
The shot-to-shot time (with manual pre-focus) is about one second, and the camera NEVER slows down, no matter how many hundreds of frames you take, until the card fills or your finger wears out. (This assumes there's enough light for the exposure times to be small fractions of a second.)
For best results, you should get a high-speed (10 MB/sec) SD card, not a standard or even medium-speed card. Panasonic and SanDisk both make high-speed cards (256MB and larger) that sell for about $80. Standard-speed cards operate at 2 MB/sec. It won't matter for single-frames, but does matter whe taking Bursts: the recovery time is a lot faster with the high-speed cards.

Of course the other thing you can use is the burst mode to capture a rapid sequence of shots. You still have to kind of anticipate the action, but I find this works very well. Make sure you have image review turned off for faster shot-to-shot time.
