Default Auto focus problems Panasonic DMC-FZ38

Hi,
Ive had my DMC-FZ38 for the last 2 years working fine.

I started messing with some of the setting and now my auto focus wont work or is too fast and picture comes out blurry.
When I go to take a photo,
I give first pressure (this would automatically focus) green dots and green squares would appear when focused and it would beep to let you know)

I could then continue to take the photo even after a couple of seconds.

Now when I try to take first pressure it beeps and just takes the photo.

I have tried factory reset.
AF/AF&/MF etc
iA setting on the camera.
And I read the manual!

Any help please

I have (rather, had - it is in the service centre now pending repairs) a FZ 28 and if FZ 38 is more or less the same, I guess you have meddled with the Auto Focus mode in the settings menu. You say previously you were seeing green squares, I presume you are not seeing them now, which means you have set the focus from multi-point focus to probably spot focus. Try resetting the auto focus to multi-point.

Thanks but I have tried all the autofocus settings.

Is there a way to master reset the whole camera.
I have tried resetting the camera but this did not change any settings

G'day mate

Maybe you'll need to remove the batteries long enough for the camera to lose all settings. The time varies from brand to brand - anything from 2 days to 7 days
Good luck!!

Regards, Phil

You can reset the camera to default by switching to a PASM mode and open the menu to the set-up menu. It should say "Reset". There is also "Reset Number", but don't do that. It will change your picture number.

I'd download the pictures from the SD card and "format" in-camera at the same time. I've had un-formatted cards cause some real quirky things at times.

I doubt if anything you changed could have had anything to do with the IA mode. What's available in the IA main menu and quick menu are about all that affect IA mode. Even the 4-way defaults to IA when in that mode.

My FZ28 does seem to have a "soft" shutter button. I had to roll/slide my finger over it or I would trigger the shutter and miss the half-press when I first got it. It still has an awkward feel to it. If I use the tip of my finger, I'll trigger the shutter and miss the half-press.
