I have two Panasonic cammeras (FX20 and LC43). As I was organizing my picture files on my computer I realized that the two cameras generate an identical file number sequence ie., P1000 0001. What this means is that I take the chance that I will overwrite a file (picture) from one camera with a differentpicture (but same file number)from the other camera.

What I would like to do is to get one cameera to start the sequence like P2000 0001.

I have not been able to find in the manuals any way to change the starting number except to set it back to 0001. Of course I could change the file name s in the computer, but that is a monster job.

Has anyone faced this problem?

You can change the folder numbers from the cameras, but I think it will always start from the same file number within a folder. I can see where it could be a problem mixing pictures from cameras with the same file numbering in the same folder.

It isn't that much of a monster job to change the file names of just the pictures you pull from the original folders and mix for special reasons. Irfanview thumbnails is a great sorting tool as you can make the thumbnails large enough to make decisions from. Once you select a batch to send to a common folder just use the batch rename.
