Digital zoom is a bicubic enlargement on Every camera. It isn't even a zoom function, just a "enlarge/crop" function. Photoshop's enlargement is better, s-spline method is twice as good. I'll post some examples later on.
Do you have a reference that the zoom is just a bicubic enlargement? Not trying to aggravate, just curious.

However, the reason I say it is better on the FZ1 is because that camera only saves in JPG format, which is lossy. So an enlargement in post-process is using less information than is available to the camera for its zoom.
