After waiting a couple weeks I received an email response from Panasonic regarding my question raised in this thread about problems with the M'anual mode settings in the Z20.

product you have inquired about is not supported from this facility. To

Unfortunately, it was one of those "Sorry wrong department messages". It's not very helpful or proactive on the part of Panasonic.

I'll post an update if anything else happens through Panasonic.

Many FZ users claim to love their camera, and that it is perfect.

It obviously is not. Some are not real issues, rather of depth in the pics: but we obviously are dealing with a compact UZ, not a dSLR.

Other ones are real issues, like color casts in most WB, some noise and the object of this thread.

Well if it wasn't for these annoying features, the cam would really be a jewel.
And it makes me even more angry for they could have fixed most of these via a software upgrade, making this lucky series of cams even closer to a perfect UZ compact cam.

Very strange that Panasonic, which has really showed Canon, Nikon and others HOW to produce an Ultra Zoom, anticipating them in time and quality, has failed to even try to compete on the post-release improvement side (i.e. with firmware updates).
But obviously they d do an update only in case of critical blunders/issues, while in our case the updates would only be a bad thing for the sells of newer products.

I have a FZ20 since December, and I have made great things with some PP too.
So I am satisfied of it.
But If I had a FZ10 I would not see the reason to upgrade to a FZ20 or FZ5...
