I'm going to beat this subject to death yet??? Your flash problem can easily be solved with a slave unit that will fire with the built in camera flash. Who needs a hot shoe on a pocket camera? I am sure there are many products to select from. I have the Sony W series accessory it issmaller than a coin purse and has 3 power settings. I do not always attach it to the camera but set it on a table or point it up in my hand for a bounce flash. I have also used it outside. With an ISO of 400 it will go a long way

Have a look at the Minolta X1. It has an advantage over the extending lens zooms in that it is less likly to get dust into the camera body, and / or for the lens extending motor to fail. It also is a 8 mega pixel and has image stabilazation! I have a Xt now, and am seriously considering upgrading. It's a great pocket camera.
