Default GF1 disable dial click mode change?

i was out last night taking some night pics. i was assisting a lady trying to use a GF1. What a nightmare! metal, cold, fiddly buttons.

once she got it into manual, set the iso and aperture, i asked her to adjust the shutter speed. a few times she was ok, but mostly with shaky frozen fingers she pressed the dial instead of just turning it.

is there a way she could maybe disable the push to change mode feature on the dial? she wanted to go back too shutter priority as the manual way wasn't working. i'll see her at our camera club meeting on monday and i'd like to be able to help her. my feeling is, it's the wrong camera for the job but i doubt if she'll be buying a new one anytime soon. (i won't mention the gf2 release)
