The Pentland Hills are 5 mins drive from the southern edge of Edinburgh, and command a remarkable view over the city and the Firth of Forth.
The rocky crags of Salisbury Crag and Arthur's seat, seen on the right here, are nearthe city centre, at one end of the Royal Mile, overlooking Holyrood Palace, with the Edinburgh Castle on a smaller rock at the other end. The castle isjust visible in this shot below & right of a prominent white tower on the shore, a little over half way along. This is a 2-shot pano from Autostitch 2.2 with my Kodak Z712is, 1/800s, f/5, ISO100, 36mm equiv. I've previously made big panos of the city from the hill in the suburbs, seen here just this side of Arthur's seat. This was just a pair of snapshots 2 weeks ago on a test flight with the family of my recently remodelled right foot . |

Here's a wider view from one of the hilltops, from the Forth Bridges upstream on the left, to the faintly visible Bass Rock (one of the gannet capitals of the world) at the mouth of the Firthand its nearby hill of North Berwick Law. Bass Rock, the Law, the Castle Rock, Salisbury Crag and Arthur's Seat are all lumps of very hard basalt from ancient volcanic activity.
This is an in-camera 3-shot stitch. The facility works very well, provided one points at the sky to set the exposure, which is fully automatic and and annoyingly overexposed in 'panorama' mode. 1/1024s, f/2.8, ISO64, 36mm equiv. |
