They do look pretty comparable - either set-up looks like it will work. The Promaster does look like a keeper, for sure.

I think its a keeper, Sure its a cheap lens, but I couldnt tell much of a difference.

the reason i'm interested, as all should be, in the performance wide open is because that's where it'll be used the most when shooting wildlife.. i never meant to imply that this was an evaluation other than what it was shot for..

penolta, this is one that was shot with the Phoenix version of the same lens this morning. roy, most of my shots are wide open with this lens. However, this one was at f10 @ 400mm. Shutter speed 1/320, ISO 800.
