The new Sigma DSLR has an interesting way of getting rid of dust, more precisely never letting it in!

They use a protector right behind the lens mount. This seems like such a simple and effective way of preventing dust that I wonder why noone has tried this before?

Even in the sealed environment of a Fuji S602, I still experienced dust on the sensor; the only option was to return this to the dealer for cleaning at a fixed price of UKĀ£120. At least with the Pentax (& other dSRLs) you can remove the offending dust yourself.

Even with this in place, I wouldn't mind betting that dust will still get in - I've experienced dust in the viewfinder on my *istDS.

From what I read, it's not the first try from Sigma. In its first generation, the dust blocker itself became a problem after a while. And it is a pain to replace them (need factory service). Besides, I won't trust that piece of material (glass or plastic?) to further deteriorate the image quality.
