Hi gang - I finally got a case of LBA after fighting it off all Summer. As you know I come from the old Spotmatic crowd and grew up on manual lenses. I decided I need a nice fast 50 in the M-series, so that I could be back to manual just like I am use to. I ended up with a mint condition M-50mm F1.7 in mint condition. It is a high serial number and appears to be used very little.
The main thing I like about it over my screw mount lenses is that I can set it on say F8 and focus wide open, Then when you click AE-L it stops down momentarily to F8 and set the shutter speed. On the M42 lenses you have to manual open the aperture up to focus then stop it down again to shoot the picture. This small thin is quite an anvantage. Also you can click the depth of field preview and stop it down to see how the picture looks for sharpness. Anyway, this F1.7 is now going to become my prime lens just like in the old days.
I know Pentax has a new 35mm lens coming out and rumor is it may be an F1.4. Wouldn't that be the perfect lens for the 1.5 crop factor? Do you thing Pentax has something like that up there sleeve? I guess we'll have to wait and see. It is supposed to be unveiled at the big show next February. Wouldn't that be the perfect walk around lens? It would be 54mm focal length - Bruce
