I had a feeling it might be. You can find quite a few of those old furnaces in this area of PA and even down across the MD state line. Some are well preserved withbronze plaques telling its story, but I like yours even better. The fact that it's kind of hidden and forgotten back in the woods gives it a sense of history.

Lincoln county was one of the areasreceiving "Pennsylvania German" migration in the late 18th Century. It is quite likely that this local NC "technology" came from Germany by way of some ofthose furnaces in PA.
