It's been a heck of a week here in southwest Missouri, and a heck of a week for me. We had a tragic fire at 1 a.m. Monday in Anderson, Missouri that killed 10 residents of a residential care facility that was gutted in the blaze. My newspaper and Web site only covers within the city limits of Joplin, MO., so normally I would have had to ignore the fire, except I got a phone call from a colleague saying the New York Times was looking for a local reporter who could get to the scene quickly. It was my day off, and Anderson is my old stomping grounds with my previous newspaper, so I went. I ended up with two contributor credits on two stories, the first and third day, but the second day and today's stories, I was the lead writer, and in today's article, I shot a photo the Times used as well. The pic was shot with my Pentax DL and a 300 mm lens. Anyway, this is a big deal for a reporter from a little town like me and since it has a Pentax link, I thought I'd share it with you folks. Now we're dealing with our first major winter ice and snow storm in two years, so prepare for some ice and snow shots later. Here is the link to the Times Web site.

Wow! Here in NW Wisconsin it is sunny and 18F, with no snow in the forcast.

Good job!

Well done! You have a right to brag a bit! And who says the Pentax cameras aren't able to compete with the best of them?!

Congratulations! Working on the other side of the fourth estate I try to keep my name out of the papers as much as possible; it is nice to see that someone is happy to be there! I am sorry to hear about the nursing home, but congratulations, there is probably no bigger newspaper to be credited in than the NYT.
