Thanks snostorm: very helpful. I guess I will put more work in getting along with the default K100D screen.

My main manual lens I use is the telephoto 70-210mm and I am not sure the split-screen will help. In low light with F4 at the long end the DOF is quite shallow therefore any mishap in focusing has big consequences. I will try more tricks with the current screen for now.

Don't know if this would help with your 70-210, but I've use the optical preview when I'm taking macro photos - that helps verify the focus. This wouldn't help in low light with the lens wide open, but it helps with macros when you have the lens stopped down to verify the focus.
