I actually found one at rest. Yours are monarch caterpillars, the ranger at Prairie State Park here in Missouri said mine is a swallowtail catterpillar. They sure look similar.

Good catch Tom, I've been looking for them here, but this is the only one I've found.

Great Macro shot Tom,

haven't got any swallowtail in my area, but the larva are almost as nice as the butterfly.

Wow, those are awesome shots. The only ones I ever see are the little grey fuzzy ones that turn into ugly brown moths.
