After a very nice day, the evening produced an unexpected, severe lightning storm. Never one to miss a photographic opportunity, I rushed out of the house and found a nice parking structure to photograph. This storm was really strong, as lightning struck as often as once every 15 seconds. Even worse, it started striking close by, as the thunder started getting closer to the lightning.

I knew I was in danger when I finally saw a lightning bolt strike in town, hitting some kind of transformer and causing it to spark. Once I saw that, I got my gear and dashed inside my car. About a minute or two later, it started to pour heavily, and lightning really started to crack above. Luckily, I wasn't hurt and no fires started.

Here's one of the shots I was able to capture from that night:

If another severe lightning storm passed by, would I be crazy enough to try and photograph it again? Yes.

Astounding shot and you are a brave man.... please do post this in the photo section so that more people on Steve's can get to see this astounding shot!!! I would stick it in the Landscape section as the guys there would love to see it (most of them don't check out all the other sections :-))

Again, stunning work and if you have any more from the storm would love to see them!!
