I also read (never tried myself 'cause I seldom usethe tripod) that shake reduction should be turned of when camera is mounted on a tripod. I understood it's a matter of the type of vibration that is induced by the photographer when the camera is hand held, that is different (frequency, width... ??) by the one generated by the "elastic system" camera+tripod.

The first one can be "treated" by SR, the latter makes the SR system go crazy.
