I think you've just misread the units.
1 KB = 1024 bytes
Therefore 804,016 bytes = ~786 KB
I think I may have had a "duh" moment here!!!

I'd suggest you avoid using this tool.
It's ok for resizing the odd file, but I wouldn't recommend using it to resize any photos as it usually does a terrible job.
In my experience, compared with Photoshop, it produces inferior images with greater filesizes.[/QUOTE]

I will now that I see what's happening to me. I did find that by using PSE7 and the image resizer rather than save for web, the EXIF data is kept. So, might just start using that instead.

I don't subscribe to an on-line photo hosting site, so anything I post here I have to re-size on my home computer. I use PSE 6, usually resizing the image to 800 pixels on the long side, and when I save the reduced file, I usually set the quality level at 7 or 8. This usually produces a pic that's about 140 K in size, and the sharpness and image quality are usually entirely adequate for displaying here. I've never tried "save for web" so I have no idea what that does to the image quality.
