Default Life Masks

This weekend I had to go to Pittsburgh for a teacher's conference and visited the Heinz History center. Because I only took the K20d with the new WR kit lens and the Tamron 70-300mm, I was limited in my lens choices for the museum to the kit lens with high ISO to shoot inside the museum.

I was fascinated with the exhibit lighting on these two life masks of our sixteenth President.

Both were done by sculptor John Volk as models for busts he sculpted of Lincoln. The first was done in 1860 at the beginning of Lincoln's campaign for the Presidency. The second was done in February 1865, just months before Lincoln's assassination.

Both of the life masks are at the Pittsburgh museum as part of a traveling exhibit. A third life mask was of George Washington. I don't know the history of this one.

Each of them was shot with the K20 and the kit lens at ISO 2000. I used Noiseware to clean up any left over noise, but there wasn't a lot to begin with.
