Default Good news & Bad news

Hi all,
Yesterday was windy, so outside macros a none starter. Working inside, I swapped the lens for the Tamron AD2 SP 90/2.5 + it's companion ext. tube to give 1:1 mounted on a PK/A adaptor, In AV mode exposure setting is automatic, since the camera can now read lens settings, I think this lens will give comparable results, and it does solve my vision problem. Indications are that PTTL flash should work also, which will be interesting ... but this lead to the bad news, the added weight of flash + batteries, were enough for me not to be able to lock the panhead tilt, the locking screw thread in the plastic housing seems to be partially stripped (I said it had a hard life in it's industrial role before I got it.)
I haven't decided yet if I can repair the panhead problems, it may be a write off, certainly a replacement Velbon unit will be expensive. I do have an el cheapo tripod I can use in the meantime, not sure if it's good enough though. ... Jack.
