Default K-r magic @ ISO25600

Hey all,
I am trying all kind of crazy stuff with my K-r and thought I share these results with you. This is probably of no practical use, I just tried to explore some camera features and (ab-)use it to my advantage.

The ingredients:
- my cat laying at the sofa
- dim light (we talk about 1/15s, F/9, ISO25600)
- Live View (just for easier focussing as I had the camera resting on my knees)
- High speed continuos shooting in RAW+
- Oloneo photo engine to stack and align the RAW files and do the first postprocessing steps
- PSE+Topaz Denoise for denoising
- GIMP for a slight contrast enhancement with a retinex filter (4 shot HDR looked a bit "flat")
- saturation adjusted based on the red sofa

Main problems:
- the cat breathes so the belly moves a bit
- the cats ears hardly stand still

The camera was able to lock focus quite easily and the high speed continuous mode helped with the cats movements. Postprocessing was only to put 4 of the 6 images together

With some easy preparations and some postprocessing you can combine the high ISO and the high speed shooting to get a decent, detailed and ok looking (color wise) image. Of course that won't work for things that move, obviously. I had my fun trying this and maybe you'll get some ideas from this experiment.

I'll attach a resized shot and two 1:1 crops. The lil' camera is doing a fine job here to my mind - at least enough to make me smile .

Kind regards,

P.S. How do you like my model? I was hoping for a more crazy pose (he's able to do very funny ones while sleeping) but could only get that "normal" one... Maybe next time.

For ISO 25600, this is a very impressive image. Well done!

Very nice! Lots of detail, no real noise, a lovely cat. Can't ask for more than that.

A very useable print - maybe even up to 8x10 - what more can you ask from 25,600 ?

Amazing really.

Thanks for the kind replies! I'm glad you liked it.

Please keep in mind, that this is not from a single high-ISO shot - but I did similar things with my DL2 and it's really amazing, how detailed the shots from the K-r are even at that high ISO.

Digital has truly redefined photography. That would have been nearly impossible with film (except, perhaps, for some very grainy black and white films). Great shot of a very handsome cat.
