Default Hoya PRO-1 or HD CP filter?

I am wanting to invest in a good CP filter and mostly i imagine it getting used on my DA* 16-50mm and my DA 12-24mm does anyone here know if i can get away with using the hoya HD CP filter? The HD appeals since it doesn't stop nearly as much light as PRO-1 but still gives the same polarizing effect (no idea how thats even possible) and top it off its cheaper too!!! or do i need the PRO-1's thinness to avoid vignetting at the wider focal lengths?
