Default LCD magnifier hoods

Has anyone had any experience using one of these? Two of the biggest shortcomings of the K-01 are the lack of an EVF and the fixed LCD, severely limiting the viewing options. There are several LCD magnifying "hoods" on the market - I wonder if any of these could allow a full view of the screen, and if so, could it act as an eye-level viewfinder? One would think that if it could, such a stratagem would be common knowledge.

I bought one to put on the back of the Q (with DA*300 at the front end). It is a Chinese x3 model, the same as the one recommended and used by the guy on PF. These stick on to the screen and can then flip up and down to enable you to view the screen natively or view at x3. It is a good one and cost around $50.

Problem 1. Took a little knock, damn thing came off the screen and unless I superglue it (no I wouldn't be that stupid) then it's not going to stick back on again. The adhesive is just not a) strong enough or b) reusable - it seems.

2. The quality of the x3 is pretty useless for focusing (which was the whole reason for buying it in the first place - focusing on birds at 1,000 - 2,000mm).

Conclusion. Waste of money - for me, YMMV. Decent (and expensive) as a sunshade though.
