Out on the trail today and spotted some encouraging signs for all those feeling a bit winter-weary. Some of the earliest wildflowers are already beginning to bloom.
Here's a tiny member of the carrot family called "Harbinger of Spring." Each clump of flowers is only a few millimeters across, but those few millimeters are sure packed with bloom (and springtime promise!) |

We have two native species of Spring Beauty here in East Tennessee. Both would be easy to overlook later in the Springtime, but they sure bring some bright (tiny) beauty to the early part of the season. These are Virginia Spring Beauty. The other species (Carolina...) should be blooming soon. Like most early bloomers, they do not specialize in one certain pollinator. Any early-hatching insect will do.

And one more early spring plant from today - a Toothwort that is almost in bloom. Named for the tooth-like rhizomes, it's an early-blooming member of the mustard family.
This is just a small taste of the season to come - hope it brightened your day a little! |

It might be almost springtime there, but it's still plenty murky and cold here! Nice ones, Mole!

Yes, I agree with all the previous comments. Those photos, and the fact that maple sap is starting to run in this area, are cause for optimism.

Great shots!
Weather has taken a turn for the better here today, has really felt like the start of spring, clear skies, no wind and the sun setting after I get home from work for a change. Moved house the other week and I am in a more rural area, so hoping to go for weekend walks through the woods and fields to photograph the wild flora and fauna away from my usual local stately home's managed gardens.

You have spring and today we have winter - something like 6 inches of heavy, wet snow. Don't think it will last long, it's supposed to get warm again.
Love your early spring flowers, though. |
