Default April Monthly Challenge: Into the Light

No, not photos of near death experiences!!

Many years ago, the only photography "class" I ever took, instructor said you should never point your camera directly at the sun or other light source, or you would get a washed-out photo full of flare.

Now please don't blind yourself, or damage your camera, but how about trying a shot into the sun (or other light source), and show us your creative ability under difficult lighting conditions.

The rules will be the same as always, only pictures taken in the last 30 days with a Pentax or Samsung digital SLR (including the Q and K-01).

Shot at my Son's house with a DL and kit lens. And by the way I am a granddad for the 4th time. Finn was born today, 9 lbs 12 oz!

My wife and I just returned from a week in Denver, visiting our son who is working on his Masters Degree at the University of Denver. As he was showing us around campus, I couldn't help noticing the lovely architecture of the building that houses the Iliff School of Theology. As I walked around looking for an interesting angle to view the building I realized that I was indeed looking toward the light.

Default Light Shining Through

Mount Shasta is known for its world class sunrises and sunsets, but of course since this challenge we have had nothing but clear blue skies. Shot a tree in my backyard with the sun just at the top.

Mole went out of his way to include the Q so I have to submit a Q image. Just so us sometimes Q shooters aren't completely forgotten. This isn't a K mount lens but a cheap little CCTV 2.5mm (13mm equiv.) CS mount with a self-crafted homemade adapter to fit the Q. Cost me a whole $30 (lens and adapter) to get the flair Mole was talking about. Beautiful Anchor Bay on Lake St. Clair, a cold evening this April.

My entry. Taken while out on the Appalachian Trail at the edge of Greene County (very close to North Carolina border). A night of heavy rains, but then bright sun returning with the dawn.

Sun through raindrops on a budding Fetterbush shrub.

(PS - Have LOTS more trail photos to PP, hope to post them in a week or two)

There are already several very fine images here - are we still missing yours??

A quick reminder - just a few more days to submit your entry!

Default Into the light

Internal rather than external light, emanating from within the flower, taking photographic license from the monthly challenge.

The photograph is not very good, I'm afraid, but the light "source" in the flower captivates me. It is a Dutchman's pipe and it was shot in full incredibly bright sunlight, and so was very difficult to capture.

The Dutchman's pipe is no longer blooming and the camera has moved on, too.
