Default Starting To Gather

The Sandhill Cranes are starting to gather for their fall migration in late Oct. or early Nov. Home to about 800 nesting pairs, Crex Meadows in Grantsburg, WI, becomes the "jump off" point for about 12,000 of these large birds. They'll fatten up, as these guys here are doing, storing up for the long flight ahead.

Great photo -- thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to see the annual migration of the sandhill cranes, but as yet have never had the opportunity.

Great photo. I've only been able to get a photo of one Sandhill Crane. Seem to be skittish....on my approach.

Nice shot I like the crop, I hope to see them at the other end of the migration assuming they go to Florida. I have yet to get a good shot of them flying. They are quite approachable on golf courses, almost annoyed that you disturbed them. They just walk away.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I'm looking forward to more pictures as the refuge fills with the migrants.
