Default Rare Roan Lilies

Roan Mountain, on the TN/NC border, is home to many rare plants and animals. One of the best-known, and most beautiful, is the endemic Gray's Lily (Lilum grayi).

Despite the lily disease, this was an especially good year for Gray's Lily at Roan Mountain. One way to judge success is the number of blooms per plant.

There were plenty of plants with 1-3 blooms…

There were other interesting blooms on the Roan that day, including Carolina Bugbane and Flame Azalea.

Any day (or night) at Roan Mountain is rich in discovery. Sure hope you'll come and enjoy a hike across the Roan Highlands soon!
