I just purchased my *ist. While I'm at it, I'd also like to get a 28-300mm lens so that I can just take one lens with me on vacation. It looks like the Tamron is the way to go based on reviews. I was going to get an older one off ebay (model 285DP) on the assumption that the only real difference between that and a newer model would be the weight. Now, I found a special digital lens on the tamron site. this is way more expensive than the $200 I planned on spending. Is the special digital lens really needed?

If you go to the 'Canon Lenses' forum, I asked the same question there & have had many replies. The topic is lens question - SLR vs DSLR lenses. However opinions vary considerably.

cheers Bryan :blah:
