i find working on the original, and then saving over or saving as a new file retains the EXIF.

Well it has everytime ive done it.

However, copying that file, into a new document created from scratch, obviously contains no exif at all

Thanks for additional informations.
Did you try to use higher ISO (1600 or higher)? How can this camera fight against evidence of grain ?

My understanding is that 1600 is grainy whether it be film of brand x digicam.

I don't use it because it is so grainy.

The problem I'd had was grain at low light even at low ISO.Up 'til now previous P&S had less grainit seemed, although it had stabilization.

Don't knowwhy these (all shot at ISO 200) are better than previous pictures, as
both the lens and firmware have been changed.

I do know I'm much happier with the camera, which before I was not.
