Does anyone know why the D-BG1 was discontinued from the latter models of the ist d lineand is it needed on the DS2 body? How is the battery life from standard NiMh AA batteries?

Thanks guys!!!

The external battery pack was only offered for the *istD, later models were a simplified design which no longer had the external electrical contacts for the portrait grip/ power pack. Too bad really, the grip would be very useful for vertical shots, even if it isn't a real necessity for the extra power.

Check out http://www.dicain.com/2002/zb/view.p...tice&no=61 for a third party portrait grip. This unit is not from Pentax and does not provide extra battery power, it is just a portrait grip. Looks like a well designed unit, sure would like to actually see and use one first though.
