Thanks for the help, everyone...I went down to buy Photoshop Elements 4, but the store (Office Depot) was out and so was their warehouse...either they just ran out or Elements 5 is about to come out...

Hey, know how you feel, lost our dog last summer after 12 years. Now for resizing,if you use Windows XP just download the Microsoft power toys image resizer (check the downloads list, it is there). This gives options for image size and produces decent web and email sized images that are less than 100Kb in size and look real good on the screen. I have used it for almost all of my posts, fast, simple and more than adequate. I would still get PS Elements however, for more advanced editing purposes. BTW the windows resizer does not strip the EXIF data.

As an example, here is an unedited jpeg (just converted from RAW) of 3.34Mb, resized to "medium" resulting in 38.4Kb, it looks a little soft because it has not been sharpened at all:
